Vegan Support During the Camp Fire

Last November, between housemates, neighbors and visiting friends, I found myself among 7 vegans driving in the night as a somber caravan of roughly packed cars. A cat was crying out loudly from within a box clutched to the passenger's lap, its guardian apologized to the box profusely. We all looked into the glowing canyon. We were scared at the time, under mandatory evacuation, but at least safe. Our hearts went out to the less fortunate. We would be locked out of our home for more than a week to come, but the fire never reached our community. Promoting Vegan Agriculture

Produce nutrient sourcing is a highly overlooked topic, even in the realm of veganism. Today, it is standard practice to grow most produce with the by-products of the animal ag industry, including bone meal, blood meal, fish emulsion, and manure; however, this is does not produce as healthy of plants compared to growing produce with organic plant-based nutrient sources like compost tea, kelp, earth minerals and mulch. Vegan agriculture brings us one step closer to realizing a world that is not reliant on commodifying animals. We aim to promote vegan and organic farming practices and support the farming communities involved. Other Veg Collective Initiatives

Some other programs we hope to initiate or support are: Sharing free vegan food to those in need by partnering with Food Not Bombs as well as starting our own meal / food sharing programs. -Once we establish more volunteers and partnerships with local food merchants, we will begin regular free food services in Chico. Offering free consulting to help businesses cater to the plant-based market. -We will be of service and also proactively reaching out to food vendors. Hosting free vegan cooking events in our community kitchen. -The Veg Collective has access to a community kitchen where we can engage in all kinds of culinary projects and showcasing.
